Megaphone help. Whether they are used by an sports instructor for training, for crowd control, or in an emergency, megaphones are important in many organisations. We can advise you which megaphone to choose for every need. Distinctive siren signalling will get the crowd’s attention and make sure your announcement is heard. We supply both hand-held (or "pistol-grip") models and shoulder-held megaphones with detachable microphone. From rallies and movie locations, ship-to-shore, fires, to safety & security and emergency roll calls, you can be sure there is a megaphone for you.
How To Choose a Megaphone
Range is dependant on the SPL (Sound Pressure Level) the megaphone produces compared with the background noise level where it is to be used. In noisy environments, a much more powerful megaphone is required. A 10 watt megaphone is not necessarily LOUDER than a 6 watt megaphone. Compare units by their stated "maximum SPL". (When comparing with other suppliers, if the maximum SPL is not shown, it's probably not very loud
Remember, buy online and we give a 10-day money back guarantee).
We have also shown the "audible range" in metres, (eg. approx. 250m). These figures are given by the manufacturers, but this depends on the environment in which the megaphone is used.
Technical Terms for Megaphones
Power output or rated power can be stated in many different ways, and as such does not necessarily indicate how loud or effective the unit will be, which can be confusing when attempting to compare models.
Maximum SPL (Sound Pressure Level) indicates how loud the megaphone is, and this will directly affect the effective range in a given environment.
As a guide, an extra 10dB sounds about TWICE as loud and about an extra 6dB is required to double the effective range in a given environment.
Do's And Don'ts
Always use alkaline batteries for the high current required as they have a long storage life, typically 2-3 years and they are normally leak-proof during their "shelf-life"
Store the unit in a dry place For Emergency Applications,
Schedule regular testing
Replace batteries regularly, we suggest annually, to ensure the megaphone is always ready to use. | |
